The Codiaeum variegatum 'Excellent' is a species of perennial plant in the genus Codiaeum of the family Euphorbiaceae.

The species has a natural distribution in Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia and islands of the western Pacific, occurring in open forests and shrublands.

The species is widely used as an ornamental plant, including as an indoor plant in temperate and cold regions, being traded under the common name croton.

Several cultivars are available, with diverse leaf color, mostly with reddish base variegation.

The plant is highly toxic to humans.

 

Vase: 24 cm in diameter.

Height: Approximately 100cm from the base of the vase.

 

Cultivation

Temperature: Ideally 18-21°C, keep this plant away from drafts and cold places.

Light: The Codiaeum it does best in a well-lit place - direct sun can cause bleaching, too little sun would turn the leaves green.

Watering: Water when the soil begins to dry out. They are not as thirsty as other plants, but will shed their leaves if kept too dry.

Take note, withering for a Croton means it has a lot of water.

Air humidity: They prefer moderate to high humidity, this can be achieved by grouping the plants, spraying, using a humidifier or placing the plants in a tray of watered pebbles.

Fertilization: Fertilize every other watering during the growing season, dilute the fertilizer to half the recommended dose.

There is no need to fertilize in winter.
